The Trip to Gavarnie

On Friday we visited the beautiful mountain village of Gavarnie in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It was the most incredible day, with brilliant sunshine and blue sky accenting the majesty of the mountains and the river Gave that flows down through Lourdes much lower in the valley. We celebrated Mass with groups 177 and 209 in the café gardens looking out over the mountains, this was a particularly resonant experience as These were the two groups who myself and Fr David had travelled with previously and it gave a sense of history and family to our new group 111. After lunch we had the choice of a walk further up into the mountains or the chance for a pony or donkey ride, which was enjoyed by small and big children alike. It is impossible to put into words what a powerful experience this day was.
