day of Peace - 21st September This is such a
simple but brilliant idea that I decided to devote the entire of this edition
to this one theme. Introduction PEACE ONE DAY
is the story of one man's attempts to persuade the global community via the
United Nations to officially sanction a global ceasefire day; a day of
non-violence; a day of Peace. The UN
International Day of Peace is now fixed in the calendar on 21st September
annually. The real challenge has now begun - to get the world to unite on one
day. How to
take part Here are some
possible ideas of what you can do to mark the day: 1. Light a
candle and hold a minute silence at 2.
Play/sing the song
3. Watch the 6 minute film
a call to action (A huge download, but well worth it. Needs Quicktime to run) 4. Set up a competition
for students to design a Peace One Day posters to be put around the school on
the day. I'm going to get students to do this as a 1 slide powerpoint. You could also translate a couple of
phrases in lots of different lanuguages such as
Peace, War, 21st September etc. for them to use as well 5. Buy and display posters 6. Promote Peace One
Day's website from your school's website, and newsletter etc. 7. Tell staff and students
to treat each other with respect for 1 day (this may be more difficult for
the teachers than the students!) 8. Buy the KS3-4 Peace One Day
citizenship Resource Pack including DvD 9. Create an exhibition
(real or virtual) of student work on the issues of Peace and Conflict 10. Tell Peace One Day
what you are going to do by clicking here Useful

rifles or pistols for our battle, but instead spiritual wapons
- and the foremost of these is prayer'. Franz Jaggerstatter '...and yet,
when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the

will return onece more. In the meantime, I
must hold on to my ideals. Perhaps the day will come when I'll be able to
realise them!' Anne Frank 'Non-violence
leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until
we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.' Thomas Edison 'Peace cannot
