Education for Global Citizenship

This new flagship publication from Oxfam outlines the why, what, and how of Education for Global Citizenship. Aimed at teachers in all subjects, and across all age groups, it provides case studies outlining best practice in the classroom, examples of appropriate teaching approaches, and resources for further reading.  http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/teachers/globciti/

Mapping Our World

Mapping our World is a new whiteboard resource created by Oxfam consisting of nine fun activities all about maps, globes and how we view the world. It is designed to fit the Geography curriculum but is also suitable for areas of ICT, Citizenship, PSE and Environmental Studies (P3 – P7). http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/mappingourworld/

Bring on the World (World Cup)

Oxfam has created a series of free online activities for 9-11 year olds. Bring on the World uses football as a springboard to explore global issues including the sportswear industry, whether competition is 'a good thing', and the inequalities between participating countries. It will also help pupils learn about the countries involved in the World Cup, and include a 'country trumps' card game, mapwork, debate, and photo activities.

The resource will be launched on Friday 19th May, but teachers can view an outline of what will be available, here: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/bringontheworld

For teachers wishing to explore the global sportswear trade in more detail, we have Looking Behind the Logo ? a simulation game for ages 13+. For free assembly plans and to order the game, visit: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/teachers/olympics/index

World Class Twinning Map

The BBC have created an interactive map to enable schools to show what international links they have.  It is a really good idea to look for schools in your local area that have already set up a link, so that you can ask them for advice and ideas for activities.  You may even be able to use their link to help set up one of your own.  If you have an existing link, please add it to the map.
