Peace and conflict images

Poster requirements:

·         printed on A4 paper, landscape or portrait.

·         black and white or colour.  The background must be white to save on printing costs

·         The text and images must be clearly visible across a corridor

·         The text and images must be appropriate for an audience of 11-18 year old students in a school

·         The phrase Peace One Day and the date 21st September must be included

The poster must include at least one statistic about conflict or a quote about peace to inform the audience

Issues to consider:

·         What application will you use to create the poster?

·         Will your poster be portrait or landscape?

·         What will the title be?

·         What information do you need to give?

How will the poster grab the attention of students passing by?

Conflict Statistics:

·         Since 1990 90% of the people killed in conflicts have been civilians (not soldiers)

·         There are enough small arms to share them out one for every ten people in the world

·         Each year enough units of ammunition are produced to kill everyone on the planet twice

·         A third of the countries in the world spend more money on military than on health care

·         China, France, the Russian Federation, the UK and the USA are the top five arms exporters in the world

·         From 1998 to 2001 the USA, the UK and France earned more income from selling weapons to developing countries than they gave in aid.

·         It is estimated that roughly 300,000 children under the age of 18 are fighting in armed conflicts around the world

6. Mark Alert:  Evaluate another student’s poster

  • Is the text spell checked and does it make sense?
  • Are the images clear and appropriate for the intended audience?
  • Is there a clear border of space around the poster?
  • Are there any gaps that could be filled?
  • Will the poster inform the audience about the issues of conflict and peace?
