SAVE & OPEN Data-1.xls

If you were in group 2a or 2b, (heating/insulation)

SAVE & OPEN Data-2.xls

Save the data file to your Survey folder, then open it. Read the first 2 sheets, Core Questions and Themed Questions, to remind yourself of the questions we asked in our survey.

5.3 Now click on the tab for the Dirty Data sheet. Watch a demonstration by your teacher of how to use Find and Replace to change the data so it can be analysed. Use a Data Filter to check for any other problem data.

10 mins

5.4 Now click on the tab for the Input sheet. The Input sheet contains the survey data for your group. Add a Data Filter, so you can start searching for specific data.

5.5 Move on to the next sheet, P1. You will see your group hypothesis on the sheet. Copy the data you need from the Input sheet to fill out the data table, then create a chart to test your hypothesis.

When you have created the chart, move on to the next sheet, P2. Copy some different data from the Input sheet to create a second chart that tests your hypothesis.

You should aim to produce at least three charts this lesson.

Teacher notes:

5.2: Each group has a data sheet containing a) core data (same for all groups), and b) themed data (different for each group). The activities on the Dirty Data sheet and on P1 are the same for all so can be demonstrated, later activites are differentiated so that Groups 1 and 2 are more challenged than Group 3.
